Key Fob Repair | Winchester, VA
You walk up to your vehicle and pull the handle. The door doesn’t open. That’s odd, since your vehicle has proximity keyless entry. You pull out the fob and press the unlock button. Nothing happens. After some searching on the internet, you figure out how to open the door with the emergency key and start your car with a dead fob. This is a very annoying process to have to through over and over if you don’t have a traditional set of keys and your vehicle use some sort of smart key fob, as most newer vehicles do.
If your vehicle’s key fob is acting up or just flat out isn’t working, we’ll be glad to assist you. Here at CrossPointe Motor Cars, our expert technicians have access to the specialized tools and genuine OEM parts.
Do I need a new battery or is the fob broken?
If your key fob doesn’t appear to be damaged and isn’t working, chances are that you just need a new battery. Changing your key fob’s battery is a straightforward process, but it can be a little daunting. Here at CrossPointe Motor Cars, we can install a new battery for you as well as get a replacement for a broken fob.
While every key fob is different, replacing the battery in one usually involves the same general process: remove the emergency key, pry open the fob, remove an insulated barrier and the motherboard, and remove the old battery. Drop in a new 3V 2032 battery, put the insulated barrier and motherboard back in place, snap everything together, and you’re good to go.
However, if you’ve replaced the battery and your key fob still doesn’t work, you’ll need to get a new one. We can help with that.
