The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) is made up of people that are dedicated to seeing the number of losses due to car accidents decrease. They define losses as deaths, property losses, and injuries. Originally founded in 1959, the IIHS wanted to give an incentive to automakers for creating vehicles that were safe.
